Florida Senator Fights to Make American Flags in America
Florida Senator Ashley Moody is supporting a new bill that would ensure more federally-purchased American flags are made domestically

The Make American Flags in America Act builds upon last year’s All-American Flag Act, which prohibits federal funds from being used to purchase American flags unless the flags are domestically manufactured, with a few exceptions.  The new Make American Flags in America Act closes a few loopholes in the previous bill to ensure more flags displayed or bought with federal funds are domestically sourced.

“In this country, we have so much to be proud of,” Republican Senator Ashley Moody said. “Let’s make sure American flags are American made!”

The Make American Flags in America Act closes a few small exceptions included in the original bill last year, such as applying to the legislature, judiciary, and federal government corporations, and removing the acquisition threshold so that all flags purchased must be domestically manufactured.

The MAFAA also requires that all flags displayed must be domestically manufactured and requires an FTC study on enforcement of this scheme.

Fellow Florida Senator Rick Scott and North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis are also cosponsors of the bill from Texas Senator Ted Cruz, and it is bipartisan with Democratic cosponsors Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego and Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin.
