Scott claims "loopholes" in a law passed in 2024 still allow Chinese companies to sell American flags on e-commerce platforms & falsely label them as American made.

Florida Sen. Rick Scott along with two other senators announced a bill dubbed as the 'Make American Flags in America Act' Thursday, in an effort to "ensure all American flags displayed by a federal agency and purchased using U.S. tax dollars are made in America."

Scott introduced the bill alongside Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis.

In 2024, Congress passed and President Joe Biden signed into law the 'All-American Flag Act.' The law prohibits federal agencies from using funds to procure a U.S. flag unless the flag has been made in the United States from materials that have been grown, produced or manufactured in the U.S.

However, Scott claims "loopholes" in the law still allow Chinese companies to sell American flags on e-commerce platforms and falsely label them as American made. Cruz said in a press release their bill would close the loopholes.

"The American flag represents the pride and joy of being an American and very values of a nation founded upon freedom, democracy and the American dream," Scott said in the release.

"Producing an American flag is a privilege that should only be granted to our fellow Americans who believe in the values it represents, not nations like Communist China who seek to destroy the American way of life. Our bill preserves the protects the pride of American-made products and the patriotism of the flag and nation we love. I urge my colleagues to support its quick passage."

The release states the senators' act will remove an "acquisition threshold" from the All-American Flag Act if passed, and require the Federal Trade Commission to produce a report assessing enforcement.

"Congress should take it up and expeditiously pass it," Cruz said in the release.
